Review: Makeup Revolution Lipsticks

If you know me, or follow me on any form of social media, you’ll know that I am absolutely obsessed with lipstick. I wear lipstick more often than not, and have become increasing obsessed with wearing bright and unusual shades of lipstick! I recently ordered some Makeup Revolution lipsticks from the Superdrug website after reading about them on a Buzzfeed article and they did not disappoint. I ordered 9 in total (which only cost me £8 all together!) so I’m going to show you each one and review them individually. I bought from 3 different Makeup Revolution collections. I’ve only worn 3 of them so far so these reviews are based on a quick swatch, so I can’t give a review on their longevity or reapplication, but I will probably do this as and when I wear them.

Scandalous Collection
The first one I tried was the shade Felony. Although I love the idea of a lemony yellow lipstick, and thought it would be a contender for my favourite of the lot, unfortunately I was disappointed with it straight away. The colour was no where near as pigmented as I’ve seen swatched on various reviews and articles, which leads me to believe it needs a primer or under colour to bring out the colour more, something I will probably experiment with in the future. The colour was also uneven which I don’t like, it clung to the drier parts of my lips and barely showed up on other parts. This lipstick is fairly glossy, so the application is quite nice and easy, plus it smells heavenly! Overall I do like it and will probably wear it when I’ve figured out how to make the colour pop more and look more even, however I think I’ll have to have a tan to pull it off as this colour nearly matches my skin tone!

The second I swatched was Crime. I’m not a pink lipstick kind of girl by nature, but I actually really liked this colour on me! Unlike Felony, the colour was more even but I think it looks less like a lipstick and more like a lip tint. It has a gloss to it so it was easy to apply, and I definitely think it’s a colour I’ll wear when I want to look a bit girly and cute as it’s not TOO pink, a look that doesn’t suit me at all. I do wish it was slightly more pigmented however.

I then swatched Depraved, a deep lilac colour. I absolutely adore this colour, and it restored my faith in these lipsticks as on me, it looked exactly like the pictures I’ve seen. It was much more even and pigmented than the first two I tried and it’s definitely one I’m going to be using religiously over spring and summer!

Immoral was a strange one for me. At first I hated it, then I loved it, and I’m still not sure how I feel about it. Like with Felony, I think this colour needs a primer or base colour to make it truly pop.

The last lipstick I swatched from the Scandalous collection was Vice, and I am so glad I saved it because it is definitely the best one of the collection! It’s a lot like Crime in that it’s not pigmented enough to be a full on colour, which I liked about this colour because it blends so nicely with my lip colour. I’ve worn this colour a couple of times, and although it looks great on first application, I don’t like how it looks after a few hours and after reapplication. This is the sort of lipstick I’ll probably wear in pictures and videos but not for work or socialising!

Atomic Collection
The first colour I swatched from this collection was Make Me Magnificent, and it didn’t live up to its name. Of course, when buying lipsticks online you don’t get a true swatch, but I wasn’t expecting it to be this colour. It kind of reminded me of something my sister’s friends would have worn in the early 2000s, it was a metallic purpley colour that has a slight shimmer in it. I’m not crazy about this colour, but knowing me it will probably grow on me and might even end up being my staple lip colour! Like the rest of these lipsticks, it is easy to apply, but unlike the Scandalous collection it doesn’t smell very nice, it has quite a cosmetic smell which I don’t like at all.

I then swatched Serpent and fell in love with it! By far and away this was my favourite shade, it looks absolutely incredible on and I couldn’t believe how pigmented and rich the colour is. I think it really suits me and makes my eyes look even bluer. I wore this colour to work and it actually lasted a long time without needing to be reapplied and was really easy to do so. I find some lipsticks don’t look as good on second application but this isn’t one of them. I teamed this lip colour with a slicked back hairstyle, thick eyeliner and bold brows.

Vamp collection

I was so excited to swatch lipsticks from the Vamp collection because dark, moody and gothy lipsticks are all right up my alley! I am a self professed black lipstick addict, I have 5 different black lipsticks already and I’m always looking for another, hence why I bought Black Heart. After being impressed with the pigmentation of the darker colours so far, I was expecting big things… However, I was severely disappointed. This lipstick had little pigmentation, and had a strange reddish tint to it. This was probably the least impressive lipstick of the lot, and I was very disappointed!

The last lipstick I tried was Rebel With a Cause. After Serpent, this was my absolute favourite of the bunch. The colour is absolutely stunning, it is perfectly pigmented and smells lush. I wore this colour on Easter Sunday and it stayed in place for hours, including during a lovely roast dinner! I was so impressed with this colour and it’s quickly wormed its way out of my lipstick makeup bag and into my everyday makeup bag.

So there you have it! Hope you enjoyed this post, it’s very long but I didn’t want to give a half hearted review. I’ve been writing this post for a long time because I didn’t want to rush it! Let me know if you are thinking of buying any of the lipsticks I’ve reviewed here or if there’s any lipsticks you’d like me to review!
